A plain summary of what VOI Studio stores and why. Last updated 12 August 2026.
If you have an account
We store your email address, your name if you give one, and your password
as a scrypt hash. We cannot read your password and cannot recover it — a
reset replaces it.
If you were sent a link
A share link needs no account and we do not know who you are. When a link
is opened we record the time, the two-letter country your connection
appears to come from, and a coarse description of your browser such as
“Safari on macOS”.
We do not store IP addresses. The country tells the person
who sent the link whether it is being read; an address would identify you,
and it is not something we need.
Work you upload
- Route files and footage are held in private Google Cloud Storage. They
are never public: access is a short-lived signed link, issued per
request.
- Commentary, timings and audio produced from a route are stored so the
work can be reopened and edited.
- Deleting a project removes its footage. Research about public places —
which is not about you — is kept, because it is shared across routes.
Who else sees it
Routes and footage are not shared between organisations. We use Google
Cloud for storage and mapping, Supabase for the database, Railway for
hosting, and AI services from Anthropic, xAI and ElevenLabs to research and
narrate routes. Those services process the content of a route; none of them
is given your account details.
